Janice Jodene Baker

Former resident Janice Jodene Baker, more commonly known as Jan Baker, age 53 of Castro Valley, CA. passed away on Jan. 4, 1997 at the University of San Francisco Medical Center.

Jan was born Jan. 12, 1943 at Scottsbluff, Nebraska, and was the youngest of eight children of Henry and Katherine Koch Wambolt.

The family moved to Platteville in 1943, and Jan attended school there until 1955 when they moved to Brighton. She graduated from Brighton High School in 1960 and married Richard Baker on Nov. 7, 1963.

The couple moved to Castro Valley, CA. in 1974. For several years, Jan owned and operated an accounting business J&R Management.

Recently she and Richard purchased Mini Tax Service in Castro Valley, which Jan operated until her death with their son Kevin. She and Richard also owned a mail order business, Westland Products, Inc. for the past 23 years.

Jan was admired and very well respected by her clients and friends. She is a past member of the board of directors of Shady Grove School. She and her husband Richard loved to travel. These travels included Moscow, Russia, Austria, Germany, Canada, Alaska, Hawaii, and most of the United States.

Jan is survived by her husband Richard of Castro Valley, CA; son Jeffrey and daughter-in-law Diane of Fremont, CA; brothers Otto Wambolt of Littleton, Milton Wambolt of Brighton; sisters Joyce Zink of Arvada, Judy Reale of Denver, and Beverly Bucci of Brighton.

She is preceded in death by her parents Henry and Katherine Wambolt of Brighton and brothers Marvin of Parachute, Colorado and LaVerne of Englewood.

Funeral services were held Jan. 10 at Faith Lutheran Church in Castro Valley. Interment Lone Tree Cemetery in Hayward, Ca. A memorial service will be held at Brighton on January 13 at 11a.m. at Zion Congregational Church in Brighton.
