Ida was the eldest of seven children born to Friedrich and Wilhelmine Guelzow Koepke. After her birth in Grössin, Schivelbein, Pomerania, the Koepkes immigrated to Wisconsin, settling in Sheboygan. Ida helped raise her brothers and sisters until her own marriage to Paul F. M. Kiel in 1904. A quiet woman, Ida raised her six children with a loving hand and enjoyed the frequent Kiel and Koepke family gatherings. She died at the relatively young age of 60 in 1944.
