LaVerne Harri passed away Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2014, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center at the age of 89. LaVerne was born May 29, 1925, in Juliaetta, to Robert and Bessie (Hoisington) Heimgartner. She was the eighth of nine children.
She spent her early childhood on a farm above Juliaetta, where she learned hard work at an early age. She had to milk cows before and after school and help cook for the harvesters. Her mother died when LaVerne was very young, and she was raised by her dad and six older brothers. LaVerne attended school in Genesee and graduated from Lapwai High School in 1943. She met William Harri, and they were married in Lewiston on April 19, 1945. He died in December 1991.
LaVerne was a homemaker after she married, and the couple made their home in Clarkston, where she has lived for 65 years. LaVerne was a longtime member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Clarkston, where she participated in making Lutheran World Relief quilts at the church. She was an active member of the local garden club and loved beautiful flowers. She also assisted with Job's Daughters and Campfire Girls when her girls were involved.
LaVerne is survived by her two daughters, two granddaughters, one grandson, three great-grandsons and two great-granddaughters.
There will be a graveside service at 10 a.m. Monday at Vineland Cemetery in Clarkston, followed by an 11 a.m. memorial service at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, 1115 13th St., Clarkston. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any donations be made to Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Clarkston, or the charity of one's choice.
