Karna was my step-great-great-grandmother. I most gratefully acknowledge the help of the Swedish-American Genealogy Group on Facebook, for locating and translating the Swedish records below pertaining to Karna, her husband and children.
Karna Olson or Olsdatter was born January 16, 1821 in Västerstad (Malmöhus län, Skåne), Sweden.
Karna is a form for Karin (which is a Swedish form for Katarina) in southern Sweden. Karna was referred to both as "Karna" and "Catrina" on her son Lars' birth record, and she is called "Kari" on Lars' marriage record to his second wife Oline Engebretsen.
Karna married Nils Jönsson Tullberg and the couple had seven children. Their first child, Johanne, was born October 4, 1838 and christened October 6 in Hammarlunda, Skåne, Sweden. In 1839 the family lived in Harlösa parish, Skåne (formerly Malmöhus) County.
Their second child, Lars Olof, was born September 1, 1840; followed by Gustav Florentin (October 20, 1843); Anna Carolina (born April 10, 1846 and died a year later, April 11, 1847); Sven August (born May 18, 1848); Anna Carolina (born April 26, 1850 in Abild); and Bror Henning (born July 25, 1854 in Skummeslöv, Halland County).
In May 1853 the family moved from Abild to Ränneslöv. (Abild B:2). Nils died December 21, 1855, leaving Karna a widow with seven children to support.
In 1860, Karna moved from Gårdstånga to Höör (her departure record was from Holmby, an annex parish of Gårdstånga) and appears in the household examination book of Höör. With her in 1860 are her two youngest children, Anna Carolina and Bror Henning.
Karna left Höör parish on November 6, 1872, and moved into Reslöv parish November 9, where she lived at Åkarp number 1. She left Reslöv November 15, 1873 and moved into Flakarp parish on December 3. Karna worked as a housekeeper ("Hushållerska") in the farm/village of Trolleberg in the parish Stora Uppåkra - med Flackarp (also known as just Uppåkra) in Skåne. (Uppåkra was the main parish in the Uppåkra "pastorat", Flackarp was the annex parish.)
Karna remained in Flackarp parish until she died. At the time of her death, she resided at a place called Trolleberg Frälse. Karna should be buried in the churchyard of Flackarp parish, but graves are reused in Sweden and the gravestone is probably gone now.
