Mrs. Pfaender,81,Pioneer Resident, Died Early Today
Mrs. Sophie Pfaender. 81, pioneer resident of this city and a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Julius Berndt, died at her home, 900 South Broadway, at 7:45 a.m. today. She had been confined to her bed for several weeks. Mrs. Pfaender suffered a slight stroke in December, but recovered and had been up and around until several weeks ago, when she sustained an influenza attack and another minor stroke. She seemed on the road to recovery until a relapse occurred.
Funeral services tentatively are set for Tuesday afternoon in Turner hall, but word is being awaited from children who reside out of the city. Definite announcement of funeral arrangements will be in Monday's Daily Journal.
Sophie Berndt, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Julius Berndt,was born in this city Sept. 23, 1865. She grew to womanhood here and was married to the late William Pfaender, Jr. Oct. 10, 1893. The home was at the old Pfaender homestead near the City cemetery for many years.
Mrs. Pfaender is survived by the following children: Max Pfaender, Oklahoma City, Okla.; Emil Pfaender, North Hollywood, Calif.; Mrs Roland F. (Wallie) Neumann, St. Louis, Mo.; Thomas P. Pfaender, Mrs. Elmer ((Katherine) Tomschin, Miss Lottie Pfaender, Mrs. Milton (Rose) Chambard, and Carl Pfaender, New Ulm.
Two brothers also survive and are Robert Berndt, Huron, S.D.; Rudolph Berndt, Marcell, Minn.
Mrs. Pfaender was a member of the Turner Ladies’ society for 33 years and was also a member of the Junior Pioneers for many years.
