Bertha was the daughter of John and Emilia (Bindewald) Fink. She was born in Lovell, Wyoming. She married Vern Gernant on Feb. 15, 1959, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Billings, Montana. They farmed on the Emblem Bench of the Big Horn Basin in Wyoming for many years and were members of Zion Lutheran Church, Emblem. They were blessed with two sons and two daughters.
In the years preceding her death, Bertha lived with one of her daughters in Billings, Montana, where she attended Trinity Lutheran Church. A memorial service was held for her at Trinity on Jan. 28, 2016.
