Dorothy A. Carlstrom was born near Brandon, MN to Frans and Rose Carlstrom. She attended country school District 45 in Brandon until the 8th grade and graduated in 1947 from Kensington (MN) High School. Her father died at an early age and she helped support the family by working on neighboring farms. Dorothy married Curtis Halvorson on Nov. 27, 1954 at Foxhome, MN. They lived in Wahpeton while Curtis attended Science School. There she candled eggs to support them. Dorothy and Curtis then made their home at Kindred, ND where she worked at the bank. They later moved to West Fargo where she had daycare for many years. The last few years, Curt and Dorothy have lived at Sheyenne Crossings in West Fargo. Curt died in Nov. 2015.
Dorothy so enjoyed the daycare treating the children like her own. Through the years, many have come back to visit. She enjoyed music and going along with Curtis as he played and sang in the band the Curdell's. She also loved to cook and enjoyed crossword puzzles and going to family gatherings. Her wit and sense of humor will be greatly missed along with her meatballs and "Auntie Dorothy" bars.
She is survived by siblings, Harold (Carolyn) Carlstrom, Grace (Marland) Madson, Verl (Carol) Carlstrom; daughter-in-law, Kathi Halvorson, West Fargo; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Harriet, Florence and Jane; son, Gary; and a son and daughter prior to birth.
