Rose Emelia Sacarias was born on August 30, 1905, daughter of Fredrick and Elina (Maki) Sacarias in Moe Township, Minnesota. Rose was raised and attended school in District 45 in Moe Township. She moved to Hibbing with relatives and worked as a housekeeper. On July 10, 1926, Rose married Frans William Carlstrom in Douglas County. The couple lived on the family farm in Urness Township and later lived on a farm in Moe Township until 1956. Rose was an avid vegetable gardener and she enjoyed canning her produce. She also enjoyed crocheting and loved fishing. Her family was her hobby.

Rose moved to Alexandria and worked at the Alexandria Hotel and as a nursing assistant at Bethany Home and Knute Nelson Memorial Nome. She retired from Knute Nelson Memorial Home and moved into the Viking Towers. Rose was a lifetime member of the Finnish Apostolic Church where she was baptized and confirmed.

Rose died on December 2, 2000 at the age of 95 at Knute Nelson Memorial Home. She is survived by her sons: Harold (Carolyn) Carlstrom of Garfield; Verl (Carol) Carlstrom of Eau Claire, Wisconsin; Grace (Marland) Madson of Northfield; sister-in-law Edna Sacarias of Deer River; 25 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren. Her parents; husband, Frans William in 1948; daughters, Florence Rosenow and Jane Connor; one grandchild; one great-grandchild; and three brothers and two sisters precede her in death.

A funeral service was held on December 7, 2000 at the Anderson Funeral Home with Reverend Russell Osterberg officiating. Interment was in the Finnish Apostolic Church Cemetery in Moe Township. Pallbearers were Dennis Johnson, Gary Halvorson, Michael Rosenow, Timothy Madson, James Connor and Frans Carlstrom. Arrangements were by the Anderson Funeral Home.
