Maria was born in Uberhofen, Saabrucken, Saarland, Germany to Johann Miller and Catharina Stremple. She immigrated into the U.S. on January 9, 1866 departing from Hamburg, Germany with her mother and siblings on the Ship Washington. She married George Huwig on July 26, 1882 in Stark County, Ohio. They had ten known children.

Massillon Woman, Mother of 10, Dies. Mrs. Mary Anna Huwig, wife of George Huwig, 52 died of dropsy and heart trouble Monday night, at 9:50 o'clock at her home, 672 Waecheter street. She had been ill a year and a half. The funeral will take place Thursday morning, at 9 o'clock, at St. Clement's church, Navarre. Interment will be made in St. Clement's cemetery. Beside her husband, ten children survive. They are Albert, Mrs. Ida Morgan, Mrs. Chauncy Lohr, Ernest Huwig and the Misses Agnes, Madeline and May Huwig, of Massillon; Herbert Huwig of Canton, and Mrs. Norma Conrad of Akron. Four sisters, Mrs. Margaret Walters, Mrs. Catherine Jogerst, of Massillon, Mrs. Ernest Jogerst, of Akron, and Mrs. Emma Huwig, of Detroit, and three brothers, John F. Miller of Akron; Frederick Miller of Massillon, and Casper Miller of Lindentree also survive.

Notes on obit: Catherine "Jogerst" would be Catherine Jurgens, John "F" Miller would be John "S", Casper of Lindentree which is south of Canton near Mineral City.
