John Stueven, 64, farmer residing twelve miles northeast of Grand Island, in Merrick county, died of apoplexy, at his home about 10:30 o'clock Tuesday evening, after a brief illness. Early in the morning, he appeared to be in his usual health and went about his farm duties, but about nine o'clock he developed a very severe headache. His condition rapidly became worse and shortly after 4 p.m. lapsed into unconsciousness from which he failed to rally.

He was born at Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, on September 12, 1865, and spent his early life there. On August 2, 1895, he was united in marriage with Catherine Wenn, in Germany. In March, 1910, they came to America, locating first on a farm near St. Libory and later moving to their present farm home.

Surviving are the widow, four son, five daughters, and one brother, Claus, residing in Germany. One son, Herman, died February 15, 1920, and another son passed away in infancy.

Funeral services will be held from the home at two o'clock Thursday afternoon, Rev. O. Hausmann, of St. Paul's German Lutheran church, officiating. Burial will be in the Wiegert cemetery, northeast of Grand Island.
