Konrad came to the United States in 1854 and landed in New York. He had been in Louisville seven years when he was naturalized on 25 June 1861, age 31, Bk 34, Page 138. The spelling on the naturalization is Conrad.

It is not proven but this writer believes that George and Mary R. Bickel were the parents of Konrad (Conrad). They were on the 1860 census surname Pickle ages 58 and 59 with a large family living on Bardstown Road with the head of the family shown as Henry C. Brickle. Henry and his family and four field hands, George and Mary and a Conrad Bitner considered to be Conrad Bickel, age 30, were all shown as Hessians. None of the above were located on the 1870 census. Henry C. Bickel was on the 1880 census in The Spring Garden Precinct and the names and ages of his wife and children match those under Brickle in 1860. Further, the neighbors on the 1860 census were the Steinmetz and Konrad married their daughter Mary 31 March 1862.

When Konrad married Mary the Rev. Charles S. Daubert, St. Paul's Evangelical Church performed the cermoney. Jacob and Catherine Bickel were witnesses. Mary was 16 and Konrad 31.

Konrad and Mary bought 16.65 acres in Spring Garden near Flat Lick Pike (Preston St.) on 21 Aug. 1865 from the Samuel Churchill Executors, DB 122, Page 610. The property joined Mary's sister and brother-in-law, Elizabeth and Edward Wirth.

Konrad's death is reported on St. Paul's Evangelical Church microfilm Deaths 1871 - 1922 at the Filson.

The Bickel estate was settled in 1917. The 16.65 acres were divided, DB 874, Page 598. The plat showing the division is Page 600. Son Conrad sold his rights to the acreage. Carrie received the farm house and an adjoining 2 1/2 acres. Maggie was given the right to live in the house and was willed all the furniture in the two front rooms upstairs.

See the memorial for Mary for two of the eight children not listed below.
