"Benjamin Dean was born on the 14th of September, 1739, in Cornwall, Litchfield County, Connecticut, the son of Reuben 1701-1790 and Ann [Carter] Dean 1704-1762. Baldwin Books/records located at OGS, Bellville, Richland County, Ohio, give a birth date of 14 September, 1739 for Benjamin in Cornwall, Connecticut, also listing his death as 13 August, 1815. The dates in these books are usually correct and the Baldwin Books report nothing at all about Benjamin 1739 being a Revolutionary War veteran. It appears, *(see below)some records indicate Benjamin was and other very important records prove he was not in the Revolutionary War. We believe Benjamin, born in 1739 was at least on one occasion given credit for service in the Revolutionary War when in fact it his brother's son, Benjamin, born 1760, son of Moses, who actually served. Benjamin was a farmer as well as a tough pioneer, taming forests, cultivating land, building cabins, houses and barns during his long prosperous life. Benjamin Dean 1739-1815 was married to Ruth Tanner on the 14th of October, 1762, in Cornwall, Litchfield County, Connecticut. Ruth Tanner was born on the 28th of September, 1740, in Litchfield County, Connecticut, the daughter of Thomas Sr. 1705 RI and Martha Tanner. Benjamin 1739 and Ruth 1740 had at least eight children known to us; (1) Ruth Dean 1763-1822, married William Kimball Eastman 1794-1887; (2) Daniel Dean 1765-1836, married Mary Field 1773-1851; (3) Rachel Dean 1766-1831, married David Hayes 1768-1847; (4) James Dean 1768-1802, married Sarah Bennett [Bates] Burnham 1775-1864; (5) Martha Dean 1770-1811, married Truman Parmley in Cornwall, Connecticut; (6) William Dean 1774-1847, 1st married Parthena Bailey 1772-1836, then 2nd married, Rebecca A. Rumsey Mulner 1808-1842; (7) Benjamin Dean 1777-1852, 1st married Henrietta, 2nd married Ruth [Barnes] Soper 1778-1866; and (8) Joseph Dean 1779, had four children, name of wife and where they are buried is unknown. It seems Benjamin 1777 possibly had a falling out with the family in Connecticut over political differences and contact was severed by miles and years. Benjamin 1777 seems to be the only child born in New York, as it is suspected he was born there while his father was helping one of his brothers develop his farm at the time there in Dutchess county, New York. Benjamin 1777 was seemingly forgotten in family affairs and not made mention of in the William Dean family manuscripts or even noted in "A History Of The William Dean Family of Cornwall, Conn. and Canfield, Ohio 1603-1952 - by: B.S. Dean, J.E. Dean and Willouie Dean Bales, 1952." They probably had no information or knowledge of thier great uncle. I am in perpetual search for any scrap of evidence to link Benjamin 1777 with his alleged father, Benjamin 1739. Benjamin Dean 1739, aged 76, died on the 13th of August, 1815, in Canfield, Mahoning County, Ohio and is buried with his wife, Ruth Tanner Dean, in the Canfield Village Cemetery, Mahoning County, Ohio. @ Source: Copied from book, "Benjamin Dean Family in Ohio" - by Todd J. "The DAR has an application for membership as well as presenting the State of Ohio an Official Roster (clearly labeled Not for Genealogy Purposes) which purports that Lucinda's grandfather, Benjamin Dean b. 1739, was in the American Revolution. These applications are disproved by my research: One of those Benjamin Dean's was a son of Moses Dean, while the one from Ludington's Regt. is not even related--the proof is absolute." @ Source: John Plambeck, 29 July, 2013.

Re: William Dean Family

"...In the fall of 1810, William Dean and wife, with five children, his aged father [Benjamin] and mother [Ruth Tanner], and a family of five persons by the name of Green, started from Litchfield county, Conn., on their weary way to the west, arriving in Canfield Oct. 10, 1810, finding shelter in a log cabin standing across the street from the present residence of Henry M. Hine..."

"...By reference to the registry of deaths for Canfield, we find that Mrs. Ruth Dean died in May, 1812, aged 71, ...and on August 13, 1815, Benjamin Dean died, aged 75. We have no further knowledge of this old couple, but if we are allowed to judge parents by their children, we could only speak well of them."
