Married Thomas M. McCormick on Nov 21, 1900 in Dubuque, IA

"One of, if not the most stylish weddings that was ever solemnized in a justice's court, took place at 2:30 o'clock in Justice Kessler's office Wednesday, says the Dubuque Times. The principals were Thomas B. McCormick of Rice, Ill., and Miss Sophia Siemen of Woodbine, Ill. The bride, who is only twenty years of age, wore a white satin gown, with a long white veil of tulle, and white kid gloves and slippers. She was a tall and beautiful blonde, and had the mien of a queen. She was attended by her sister, Miss Mary Siemen, who wore a white gown and who also had white slippers and gloves. The groom was attended by his brother, Hugh McCormick, as best man, and both wore conventional black and had white gloves. He is a section foreman for the Chicago Great Western. The bride was born at Woodbine, Ill., and is well known in Galena, where the groom was born. They proceeded to the Lorimer House after the ceremony."

Grandma Sophie would spend every holiday with us and made the best Divinity Fudge. Her house always smelled like moth balls and she always gave is Juicy Fruit gum. she loved to garden and had a little greenhouse at the back of her house in Park Forest. she grew cactus plants in there. I spent a couple weeks during the summer there after she moved from her apartment in Chicago. She always kept her hair long and braided it every morning, wrapping it around her head. I have great memories of her, except the time she tricked me into eating mutton. I was not happy!!! LOL
