Aunt Ella's death certificate lists her middle name as Jane, and the informant was her step-daughter. However I'm keeping as it as Jane because that's what our family has always said. Her middle initial on her tombstone even has a "R" inscription.

Hoffmann, Ella Rebecca, Daughter of John and Florence Pierce Bruns, was born at Moselle, on 12/12/1897 and died at her home in St. Clair 4/07/1970 in her 73rd year. Ella married John J. Hoffmann 2/14/1931 in St. Clair, and became the loving stepmother to 7 children. Mr Hoffmann preceded her on 1/29/1962. Also preceded by brother, John J. Bruns and one sister Emma Mae Bruns. Survived by her 7 stepchildren, Grace Williamson, Gertie Jennings, and William Hoffmann of St.Clair; Barbara Osborn of Union, John Hoffmann of Sullivan; Rose Krattli of Inderpendence and Dora Ann LaBoube of Hermann; one sister Edna Redhage of Union; 3 brothers; Robert and Arthur of St. Clair, and Charles Bruns of Sherman Texas; one aunt, Mrs. Anna Schuhart of Pacific; member of Cove Women's Progressive Farmers Assoc., and a life long member of Bethel Baptist Church.
