William Arthur Bruns I, son of John H. Bruns and Florence Bruns nee Pierce, was born near St. Clair, MO. on December 27, 1893, and departed this life at the St. Francis Mercy Hospital, Washington, MO. on November 3, 1977, having reached the age of 83 years ten months, and six days.
He was united in marriage to Miss Elizabeth Cordell on April 21, 1935 at Moselle, MO, and four children to bless this union. Mr. Bruns was preceded in death by one son Joe Harold Bruns on April 2, 1953. He was also preceded in death by his parents, by one brother, John, by two sisters Ella Hoffman and May Bruns, and by one brother in infancy. He is survived by his wife Elizabeth Bruns of St. Clair, MO; by two sons, Wm. Arthur Bruns II and Cordell John Bruns, both of St. Clair, and by one daughter Mary Moore Vieten of Leslie, MO; by two brothers Charles Bruns of Sherman, TX. and Robert H. Bruns of St.Clair, MO; and by one sister Edna Redhage of Union, MO; by one aunt Anna Schuchart of Ironton, MO;by seven grandsons, David, John, and Ben Vieten, Wm. Arthur III, Eric, and Jimmy Bruns, and Joseph Cordell Bruns; by one son-in-law, Noel Vieten; by two daughter-in-law, Ethel and Jane Bruns; by sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and a host of friends
Mr. Bruns was born and reared at the "Bruns Homeplace" where he lived at the time of his death. He received his schooling at Mt. Hope School, later attending Northeast State College at Kirksville, MO. until he was called into the U.S. Army. He served during World War I as a Mess Sergeant, spending most of the time in Europe. He returned to the States and engaged in farming, then worked in Pacific with his Uncle Robert Schuchart in the refrigeration business. He later returned to farming in the St. Clair area and continued until his because of bad health. Federal Land Bank Association at St. Charles, Production Credit Association of St. Charles, the Mt. Hope and Cove School Boards, and the County School Board of Education. He was also engaged in 4-H activities for many years. He was a member of the Earl Sterling Legion Post No. 255. A kind and loving husband, father, brother, nephew, and grandfather, and a treasured friend and neighbor, he willbe sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Funeral services were held; at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, November 6, 1977, at the Bethel Baptist Church Lonedell, Missouri, Reverends Ernest Evans, Fred Burnett, and E.M. Lewis officiating. Interment was inthe Church Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of the Russell Colonial Funeral Home.
