OBITUARY from The Atchison Daily Globe Friday, March 30, 1973

Mrs. Marie Louise Mangelsdorf Schmeling, 85, a lifelong Atchison, Kansas, resident, died this morning at Sibley Hospital, Washington, D.C., after a brief illness. She was the widow of Will Schmeling, Sr., and the family home had been at 1125 Laramie Street, Atchison, Kansas.

Mrs. Schmeling had made her home for about the past two years with a daughter, Mrs. Frank Capp, Michigan City, Indiana, and a son, William Schmeiling, Jr., Washington, D.C., both of whom survive.

She also was a life member of the Fortnightly Club and was a very popular book reviewer.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at the Stanton Chapel with the Rev. Ronald MacLennan, pastor of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Atchison, Kansas. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Stanton Mortuary.

The family suggests memorials to St. Mark's Lutheran Church, where Mrs. Schmeling was an active member, a Sunday School teacher for more than 50 years, and a life member in the Woman's Missionary group.
