During the late 1920's or early 1930'2 the Mangelsdorf seed firm received word that Ernst had married. He said he and his wife, Mae, would be coming to Atchison. This caused changes in the family.

Ernst and Mae were placed in the floral and retail seed store. They continued to operate the floral and seed store until Ernst passed away.

They had no children.
