PAULSEN, DOROTHY. Born in Atchison, Kansas on September 16, 1904, she died peacefully in her sleep on Friday, November 22, 2002 in Dallas. Christened Dorothea Christina
Mangelsdorf, she was known to the family and friends as Dosie. She was the thirteenth child of Ernst August and Mary Brune Mangelsdorf. Her fourteen brothers and sisters preceded her in death, as did her husband Henry C. Paulsen, her daughter Carolyn P. Look, and her great grandson Henry C. Paulsen 4th. Dosie earned her degree in Elementary Education at National College of Education in Evanston, Illinois. She gained practical teaching experience at Hull House in Chicago, which at that time offered unique nurture to inner-city children. In 1928 she married Henry C. Paulsen, also of Atchison, and they moved to Stamford, Connecticut. In the early 1930's they relocated to Elizabeth, New Jersey, where she taught 1st grade in the public school system for nearly twenty years. Dosie and Henry were active in Second Presbyterian Church and continued their worship and service at Long Valley Presbyterian Church. After Henry's death in 1981, Dosie moved to Carrollton, Texas and became an active member of Highland Park Presbyterian Church, where she was a member of the Pattee Class, several bible study groups and served as a member of the Intercessory Prayer Group. Dosie is survived by her son and his wife; her son-in-law; six grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held in the sanctuary at Highland Park Presbyterian Church, 3821 University Boulevard, Dallas, Texas on Saturday, December 7, 2002 at 2:30 PM with The Reverend Russell C. Jonas 3rd officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials my be directed to Samaritan's Purse, P.O. Box 3000, Boone, North Carolina 28607. Dignity Memorial Sparkman Dickey Dallas N. Tollway at Trinity Mills (972) 407-6070.
