Ted married Beatrice Newton Hooley in 1927. They have two sons, two granddaughters, and four grandsons.

Ted was an executive vice president of Texaco, Inc. (previously known as The Texas Company), president and member of the Board of Directors of the National Society for Crippled Children and Adults, treasurer and a member of the executive committee of the International Society for the Rehabilitation of the Disabled, and a member of the Board of Directors of Project Earning Power. He is a member of the National Advisory Neurological Diseases and Blindness Council.

He joined Texaco in 1933 as a chemical engineer after completing B.S. and M.S. degrees at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. In 1957 he became a vice president of Texaco, Inc., and chairman of the board of Texaco Development Corp. He also served as director of Texaco Trinidad, Inc., and Regent Refining Co., Ltd.

Ted has been a member of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Corp., and has served as president of the MIT Alumni Association.
