Elsie Laura Shackelford, 88, former Pipestone resident passed away Tuesday, February 21, 1989, at the Madison Lutheran Home in Madison, MN.

Funeral services were Saturday, February 25 at the Lindquist-Hartquist Funeral Chapel in Pipestone with the Revered Charles Boeder officiating. Music was provided by Pam Kruse, organist, and Sonia Griebel, soloist.

Pallbearers were Herb Schmuck, Elmer Raschke, Orlen Raschke, Ronnie Raph, Daryl Conrad, and Russ Harmsen.

Interment was in the Old Woodlawn Cemetery in Pipestone.

Elsie Shackelford was born to Gustav J. and Hulda (Weinkauf) Conrad on July 5, 1900, in Eden Township, Pipestone County. she was raised on the family farm and attended school in Holland, MN. She was baptized in the Christian faith-Lutheran tradition in Jasper by the Reverend Herman AmEnd, and as a young lady publicly confirmed that faith in a service led by the Reverend Reinhold Poethke in Holland. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Pipestone.

She was united in marriage to Lucas Maurice Tracy in 1919. Following their marriage, he entered the U.S. Army and served in Camp Grant, IL where they resided until his discharge in 1921. They then returned to Pipestone. Mr. Tracy passed away in 1937.

In 1943, Elsie wed Vernon G. Shackelford, and they also made their home in Pipestone. Mr. Shackelford passed away in 1972.

For many years she served as the baliff at the Pipestone County Courthouse.

In 1981 she suffered a stroke and for the next two years she lived with each of her two sons and their wives. In the spring of 1983, she entered the Madison Lutheran Home.

Survivors include her sons and their wives: Duane Lucas Tracy (Lois
Raph) of Oak View, CA; Lauren Dale Tracy (Eunice Eide) of Madison, MN; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one brother and his wife Edgar & Elsie Conrad of Jasper.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, one brother, Louis Conrad in 1957; and two sisters: Hattie Raschke in 1957 and Nora Raschke in 1980.
