Excerpt from eldest sister's obit regarding his birthplace.

"Wilhelmine Conrad, daughter of Michael and Justine Conrad, was born at Buchwerder, Posen, Germany on February 29, 1852 and died at the age of 84 years, 7 months and 10 days.

She was baptized in early infancy and after due instruction was confirmed in the Lutheran church
at Czarnickau, Posen, Germany"

Per granddaughter memoirs he getting water at a pump and was struck by lightening and died instantly.

From the PIPESTONE COUNTY STAR, May 12, 1905:

"The Holland Advocate gives the following particulars of the death by lightning of Gus Conrad, of this county, to which sad event the Star referred briefly earlier in the week:

'Tuesday evening about seven o'clock, during the electric storm that was ragin, Gus Conrad, a farmer living two miles north of here was instantly killed by lightning.

'The deceased was requested to go to the well for a fresh pail of water by one of his daughters. While he was at the pump a death dealing stroke came from the heveans [sic], blighting out one life, in this world below. The same bolt struck the barn some twenty feet away. Not much damage was done, other than tearing the shingles from the roof.

'He is survived by a wife and five children. The sympathy of the entire community is extended to the family and relatives.

'Funeral services were held at the home Thursday and the remains laid at rest in the Rock cemetery.'"

Mr. Conrad's Minnesota Farm Residences:

1892-1901: 278 21st St, Eden Township, Jasper, MN - Gustav originally settled the farm after moving to this area from Iowa along with three brothers. All of them had originally emigrated from Germany.

The north 80 acres were purchased in 1892, said Daryl, and the south 80 five years later in 1897.
