John or Jan Cejka was born to Jan and Marie Anna Cejka in May, 1857. He was a farmer in and around Vratkov, Österreich or Austria, now the Czech Republic. On June 21, 1882, he left from Hamburg port and sailed to America on the ship "Herder" with his widowed brother Franticek/Franz/Frank, sister Marie Cejka Cap or Chop and her family, widowed mother Marie Anna, nieces Marie Anna and Marie Antonia, and nephew Josef. They all arrived in New York City on July 5, 1882, except for baby Josef who died at sea four days before reaching Ellis Island.

Jan settled first in Munden, Republic, Kansas, where other family had already settled. He then moved to Perry, Noble, Oklahoma, with his mother and sister Rosalie Cejka Soulek's family as a Pioneer in 1894. He worked his homestead there until moving in with his sister and nephews during his later years.
