--The third of four children born to Albert J. Schmidt (1897-1952) and the former Bertha Zelma Patton (1895-1981). Her parents divorced in 1937.
--She suffered from appendicitis in the fourth grade around 1941, nearly dying, and causing her to fall back a grade in school.
--She was raised on the farm near McKittrick, Missouri by her mother, later moving to Hermann in 1941, and was a graduate of the class of 1949 Hermann High School. She became a member of the Hermann Methodist Church.
--She was a beautician.
--She married Virgil Chad "Punkin" Stiers on February 19, 1955, at Hermann Methodist Church in Hermann by Rev. Leon A. Slover; and they settled in nearby Rhineland, MO (and later Bluffton, MO) and had 5 children: Vickie, Paulette, David, Lisa, and Calvin, before she passed away on December 21, 1964, of complications resulting from the disease of scleroderma at the age of 34 at the University of Missouri hospital.
--In addition to her husband and five children, she was survived by her mother, Mrs. Bertha Schmidt of Hermann; 3 siblings- Marvin Schmidt and wife Darlene of Saint Louis County, Mrs. Darlene Kattelmann and husband Elmer of Hermann, and Mrs. Dorothy "Dot" Busen and husband Gene of Endicott, New York; four aunts, Mrs. Leona Rauh and husband Fred of Saint Louis, Mrs. Alma Hartenberger and husband Elmer of Albuquerque, NM, Mrs. Laura Kipp and husband Alfred of Owensville, and Mrs. Quinta Racherbaumer and husband Walter of Rosebud; three great-aunts, Mrs. S. Annabelle "Annie" Fricke of Caruthersville, Mrs. Dena Tuepker of Concordia, and Mrs. Mary Krull of Saint Charles County.
--Funeral services were held in the Hermann Methodist Church, with a host of relatives and friends from both the Rhineland/Hermann area and out of town present. Burial followed in Saint Marcus Cemetery, Rhineland.
