Katherine was the wife of Felix Oschewski. They were married in Bukovina. Their first child Anton was born in 1894 and at that time they were farmers in Usfrasautz. Their second son Joseph was born in Kaczyka in southern Bukovina. Felix died in 1908 and on August 11, 1910 Katherine, encouraged by her family who had already immigrated to Canada, immigrated to Canada. She was originally accompanied by their four youngest children, Joseph, Helen, Stefania and Emilia. Her eldest son Anthony was already living in Canada.
Katherine's brother Rudolf Vollhoffer was a friend of Frank Kurtz who was a recent widower himself. Rudolf introduced them and on January 2, 1911 Katherine married Frank.
Frank brought six young children (he had ten) into this marriage, Katherine five. Together they had two children, Martha and Erma. Katherine unfortunately lived only eight years after this marriage. She died in 1919 at the age of 43 in the flu epidemic. Three days later her daughter Stephanie Osczevski died of the flu. They are buried along side of each other as well as Katherine's mother Theresa (Terresid).
