Joseph was born in Kaczyka, Bukovina. He immigrated to Saskatchewan, Canada in 1910 along with his siblings Joseph, Helen, Stefania and Emilia. Anthony, an older brother, was already living in Canada. In 1914 he married Marie Oschefski. Joseph was a welder and mechanic. In 1918 his mother Katherine and his sister Stephanie died in the flu epidemic.

Together Joseph and his wife Marie had 6 children. Together with John A Grant, Joseph would invent the first portable arc welder in their homes in Chillwack, BC. In 1936 they started the Leader Arc Welding Manufacturing Co in Vancouver and they both moved to Vancouver.

Joseph eventually move East to Orillia leaving his family behind. His wife Marie would eventually follow him there along with some of the children. Unfortunately this marriage could not be saved and Joseph moved on to the Montreal area. He died there of pancreatic cancer.
