Matilda’s parents were Sven Larsson and Anna Holmberg. Matilda had one older brother and two sisters. Her older sister Anna Sophia had died at the age of 15.

Matilda’s older brother Per Gustaf was a farmer in Närke and left for Northern America with his wife and ten children in 1881. Matilda’s younger sister Lotta, later Charlotta, married a mechanical manufacturer in Stockholm and had three children with him. Their marriage lasted 16 years until her husband Carl died of chronic pneumonia. After his death Lotta got a daughter born out of wedlock.

Matilda got ten children together with her husband Anders. All ten children became adults and married. Their lives developed in different directions but were kept together by their common commitment to Christian Free Churches.

Matilda was widowed in 1902 and two years later she moved to her daughter Hanna in the neighbouring farm Backa. She stayed there for four years before she went to the village of Fjugesta in the parish of Knista. In 1910 she finally moved to her newly widowed daughter Mia in Kristinehamn. There she stayed for the rest of her life.
