Lotten was the first of among her siblings to leave the province of Närke for Stockholm. There she served in the household of the Hedin family, where the son Sven was just about to become the famous explorer.

Lotten married and moved to the town of Borgholm on Öland. She and her husband received several foster children, among them her own niece Ingegard (daughter of her sister Johanna "Hanna" Eriksson). Lotten died of tuberculosis before she had turned 50.
