John T. Dean was born on the 21st of December, 1815, in _______ County, New York, also other records say Ohio, the son of Benjamin 1777-1852 and Ruth [Barnes] Dean 1778-1866. Because John did in fact name his only son Theodore, it is assumed that John's middle name is Theodore although not ever confirmed in any records. John was a farmer, fine hunter, worked with pelts and leathers, making fine saddles for horses as an occupation for many years. John was also known to have had his hands in many barn and home raisings and attended church regularly enough. John T. Dean was married to Sarah Jane Parke on the 12th of August, 1841, in Bellville, Richland County, Ohio, source: Richland County, Ohio, Marriage Records, volume 4, page 48, and they had four children; Eveline W. Dean 1842-1910, married Joshua Hines; Infant Dean 1845-1846; Theodore Dean 1847-1917, married Laura Melissa Charles; and Mary G. Dean 1850-1851, died 1y 1m 17d old. John was reported to have assaulted his wife and committed suicide in his barn. This was a very "fishy" situation. I have all available reports, clippings and documents pertaining to this complicated story and have my own thoughts.... I personally never trust most old newspaper reports about murder or suicides because the police and detectives back then were non-existent, the people gullible and completely full of exaggerated gossip. Very easy and fairly common to stage or assume suicides so I find these reports most interesting. I will always go as deep as possible to obtain the most accurate information before attempting to state facts. John T. Dean died on the 16th of March, 1888, in Bellville, Richland County, Ohio and is buried with his wife and family in the Bellvile Cemetery, Bellville, Richland County, Ohio." @ Source: Copied from book, "Benjamin Dean Family in Ohio" - by Todd J. Dean, 2014.
