Services for Wesley Richard Koenig, 91, formerly of East Moline, are 6 p.m. Monday at Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline.

Visitation is from 4 p.m. until service time. Graveside services are 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Cemetery, East Moline, where East Moline American Legion Post 227 will conduct military honors.

Wesley died March 5, 2011, in Sun City, Ariz. In lieu of cards and flowers, memorials may be made to the Heart Fund.

He was born Oct. 30, 1919, in Muscatine Iowa, the son of Carl Koenig and Manila Nyenhuis. He was honorably discharged from both the Army and the Air Force between 1944 and 1953.

Although he was trained as a baker, he spent the majority of his work experience operating a crane for Alcoa. His early retirement was spent in Tennessee. He eventually ended up in 2001 in Arizona, where his last years were spent on the golf course. His last accomplishment was playing a round of golf before going to the hospital.

Survivors include his children, Wesley and Maureen Koenig, Arizona, Gerald and Gabby Koenig, Nevada, Susan and Joseph Hernandez, Iowa, Carol and Rick Freier, South Dakota, Beverly Koenig, Darrell Koenig (Cathy Parchert), and Dale and Jane Koenig, Illinois; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and siblings, William and Catherine Culbertson, Florida, Ruth and Don Reilly, Texas, and Helen and Charles Culbertson, Missouri.

He was preceded in death by his wives, Gertrude and Etta. He will be missed by all of his family and friends.
