Mrs. Ben Matzke Succumbs After Lingering Illness – Funeral services were held Monday afternoon for Mrs. Ben Matzke, 59, who passed away at the Redwood Falls hospital Thursday evening. A victim of a lingering illness, she had been hospitalized about 10 days.
Mrs. Matzke was the former Luella Frieda Kissner, daughter of Mrs. And Mrs. Louis Kissner. She was born July 29, 1905 in Highwater township where she was baptized and confirmed by Rev. Tesch and became a member of the Germantown Evangelical church.
She attended rural grade school and was graduated from Lamberton High school in 1923. November 26, 1925 she married Benihard Matzke in a ceremony held at the Kissner family home in Highwater. The Matzkes farmed in Highwater until 1951 when they moved to Lamberton.
Mrs. Matzke served in numerous offices and gave freely of her services as a member of the red Rock, Germantown and Lamberton United Brethren churches. After coming to Lamberton she became a member of the Garden club, Reading club, Birthday club and Library board, carrying out assignment and duties in a commendable manner.
Besides her husband and three children she is survived by her aged mother, three sisters, two brothers and 11 grandchildren. Children are Maynard and Merle Matzke of Lamberton, and Mrs. Kenneth Rupp (Donna) of Westbrook. Sisters are Mrs. [Agonia] William Borchardt of Stanchfield; Mrs. William [Melba] Tlam of Jeffers, and Mrs. [Viola] Reuel Reif of New Salem ND. Brothers are Theodore and Robert Kissner of rural Lamberton.
Services were at the Germantown Evangelical United Brethren church at 2 p.m. with Rev. E.G. Podoll and Rev. A.J. Link conducting the rites. Music was rendered by the Germantown quartette with Mrs. Robert Creighton as organist. Pallbearers were Kenneth Kissner, Duane Kissner, Ralph Borchardt, Lester Prodoehl, Milford Matzke and David Lueck. Interment was in the Lamberton cemetery.
