Henry J. Harpenau, 70, Remsen, Iowa, died Wednesday (March 21, 1973) at a Sioux City hospital after a brief illness.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church at Remsen. Rt. Rev. Msgr. F. P. Schultes and Rev. Leo Harpenau of Sioux City, Iowa, brother of Mr. Harpenau, will officiate.

Burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery under direction of the Fisch Funeral Home of Remsen. The rosary will be prayed at 8 p.m. Thursday by parishioners and at 9 p.m. by the Knights of Columbus, both at the funeral home.

Mr. Harpenau was born April 18, 1902, in Plymouth County. A retired farmer, he had lived at rural Remsen for 41 years before moving into Remsen. He formerly had lived at rural Le Mars.

He married Mildred Nilles Dec. 29, 1931, at Remsen. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus at Remsen and the Columbus Club at Oyens.

Survivors are his wife; four sons, Clarence, Jim, Paul, and Rich, all of Remsen; five daughters, Mrs. Darrel (Colette) Schroeder of Le Mars, Mrs. Dennis (Rose Mary) Schilmoeller of Granville, Iowa, Mrs. Ervin (JoAnn) Ahlers and Mrs. Larry (Ann) Galles, both of Remsen, and Sister Carol Harpenau of Dubuque, Iowa.

Also five brothers, Anthony, Isidore, and Al, all of Remsen, John of Le Mars and Rev. Leo of Sioux City; three sisters, Mrs. Marvin Kolbeck and Mrs. Philomene Schwarz, both of Le Mars, and Mrs. Tony Kolbeck of Humboldt, S.D.; and 36 grandchildren.
