Funeral services for Ophelia Meier Fischer, 98 of Chattanooga, were held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 29, 2005 at Peach Congregational Church out of Indiahoma with James Roberts, Pastor, and Jim Roberts, associate pastor, officiating. Mrs. Fischer died Tuesday, January 25, 2005, in Lawton. Burial followed at Chattanooga Cemetery under the direction of Becker Funeral Home.

Ophelia was born May 22, 1906, on the family farm near Shattuck to Fred and Eva (Wassenmiller) Meier. She attended school in Shattuck. She was a licensed practical nurse at Newman Memorial Hospital for many years. She remained at home until after the death of her parents. She met Joe Fischer who was a widower with 3 children. They met through church friends. She married Joe Fischer, Sr. on May 12, 1957, in Shattuck. He passed away on July 23, 1981. They made their home on the farm near Chattanooga, moving into Chattanooga in 1959. She was a member of Peach Congregational Church.

Survivors include three stepsons and their wives: Clarence Fischer, of the home; John and Wanda Fischer and Joe and Colleen Fischer, all of Chattanooga; three grandchildren and their spouses: Roger and Karen Fischer, Frederick; David and Janice Holloway, Chattanooga; and Gary and Sandra Emmons, Mangum; four great-grandchildren: Jake Holloway, Tulsa; Bart Fischer, Washington, DC; Loni Fischer, Blanchard; and Jonathan Holloway, Stillwater; a sister, Ruth Ehrlich, Shattuck; a sister-in-law, Hanna Stoll, Indiahoma; two brothers-in-law and their wives: Dan and Wilma Fischer; and Dave and Esther Fischer, all of Chattanooga; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters: Mollie Meier, Olinda Karst; and Leah Kerbs; five brothers: Fred, Alex, Jake, Herman and Alvin Meier; and a great-grandson Joseph Holloway.
