He came to Shattuck with his parents in March of 1901, where he spent the remainder of his life. He was employed by Cities Service Oil Co. for 35 years, until retirement in July, 1956, as a bulk agent. In 1913, he was united in marriage to Miss Martha Batt. To this union were born two daughters, Irene and Esther. His wife, Martha, preceded him in death on July 2, 1920. On April 21, 1922, he was united in marriage to Miss Cassie Ehrlich. This union was blessed with two children, Floyd Calvin and Norma Jean. Norma Jean preceded her father in death on June 16, 1952, in an airplane crash near Anchorage, Alaska, while serving as a nurse with her husband, Dr. Roger Witzel, in the United States Health Service, where both perished in the service of their country.
He leaves to mourn his wife, Cassie; 2 daughters: Mrs. Geo. (Irene) Laubhan of Russell, KS, and Mrs. Allen (Esther) Schoenhals of Shattuck and one son, Floyd C. Meier of San Diego, CA; nine grandchildren; 5 sisters: Mrs. Henry (Mollie) Meier, Mrs. Adam (Leah) Kerbs, Miss Ophelia Meier, and Mrs. Jake G. (Ruth) Ehrlich, all of Shattuck and Mrs. Holt (Olenda) Karst of Bremerton, WA; 3 bros. Fred F. of Follett; Jacob, and Alvin all of Shattuck; and an uncle, Gottfred Wassenmiller of Shattuck.
Services were at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, in the Shattuck Seventh Day Adventist Church with burial was in the Shattuck cemetery.
