Obituary, Paul's Valley Democrat, March 15, 1998 edition Friday Garvin County, OK.

Calvin L. Pickens. Funeral services for Calvin Lacy Pickens, 81, Elmore City, are scheduled for 2 pm, Sunday, March 15 in the First Baptist Church of Elmore City with Brother Bruce McCray officiating.

Interment will be in the Elmore City Cemetery under the direction of Wooster Funeral Home.

Pickens was born Nov. 25, 1916 at Elmore City to Walter and Susie Pickens and went to his heavenly home on Friday, March 13 at St. Anthony's Hospital in Oklahoma City.

Calvin married Ruby Catherine McKay on Sept.4,1937. They made their home in Elmore City. Calvin was a loving father and grandfather and a devoted friend to everyone who knew him. Calvin's most enjoyable times were when he had his whole family together, knowing that each one was prepared to meet the Lord.

Calvin is survived by his wife Ruby Pickens of the home, daughter Marcena Henderson and her husband Carol of Mead, grandson Keith Henderson and his wife DeAn of Elmore City, granddaughter Sherry Kennedy and her husband Bruce of Spring Glen, Utah, great-grandchildren, Mikel, Ashley, and Dena Henderson of Elmore City, Okla and Katharine and Krista Kennedy of Spring Glen, Utah.

He was known by all his grandchildren as "Big Daddy". Calvin was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and five brothers.

Obituary for Ruby Pickens
Ruby Catherine Pickens of Elmore City, Oklahoma was born to Tollie and Pearl McKay on September 2, 1918 in Daisy, Oklahoma and departed this life on December 19, 2013 from Durant, Oklahoma at the age of 95.

Ruby moved to Elmore City in a covered wagon when she was 2 months old. She spent most of her life in the Elmore City community and attended school at Satterwhite and Elmore City.

On September 4, 1937, Ruby and Calvin Pickens were married at the Methodist Church Parsonage in Elmore City. They celebrated over 60 years of marriage. Her greatest gift was her Christian example and love for her family and friends.
She was a long time member of the Baptist Church that she loved dearly.

She was preceded in death by her husband Calvin in 1998, Parents Tollie and Pearl McKay, Sister Charlotte Jackson of Elmore City in 1998, Brother Calvin F. McKay of Wasilla, Alaska in 2001, One grandson in law, Bruce Kennedy of Elmore City in 2003, Sister Marie Maxwell of Kingfisher, Oklahoma in 2006, Sister Cecil Maxwell of Alexandria, La in 2009 and many more family and friends.

Ruby in survived by one daughter, Marcena and her husband Carol Henderson of Mead, Oklahoma. One grandson, Keith and his wife De An Henderson of Elmore City. One granddaughter, Sherry Kennedy of Elmore City. Her great-grandchildren, Mike and his wife Dallas Henderson of Elmore City, Katharine Kennedy of Elmore City, Ashley and her husband Matt Brown of Wynnewood, Ok, Krista and her husband Luke Bleer of Enid, Ok, Dena and her husband Tanner Stephens of Daugherty, OK. Her great-great-grandchildren, Rylee Waters of Elmore City and Weston Bleer of Enid, Ok. One brother James McKay of Moore, Ok.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, December 21, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. in the Elmore City First Baptist Church with Rev. Smokey Hurst officiating.
