AMELIA DOUGHERTY, the daughter of Fred and Elizabeth Kraft Riffel was born March 29,1914, at Russell, KS. Her death occurred July 23,1997, at Russell Regional Hospital at the age of 83 years, 3 months, and 24 days.

Amelia lived all her life in the Russell community, attended the local schools. She married Walter DOUGHERTY April 7, 1939, at Russell, KS. To this union was born one son, Ralph.

Her life was filled with her family and her love for children. She was the family baby sitter for many of the local children. Her love for kids made her a part of many of the families she worked for. She enjoyed quilting and occupied much of her leisure time with craft activities. Her early Christian life was through baptism and confirmation in the Lutheran Church.

Those who preceded her in death were her parents; husband Walter who died December 27, 1967; three brothers: David, Alex, and Emanuel Riffel; and three sisters: Mollie Ebel, Eva Riffel, and Katherine Miller.

Survivors include: son, Ralph and his wife Tootsie of Las Cruces, N.M.; 2 grandchildren: Keith Walter Dougherty of Littleton, CO; and Laura Dougherty of Des Moines, IA; 1 great-grandson, Joshua Dillon Dougherty; a brother, Jake Riffel, Russell; sister: Mary Barnes, Junction City.

Services begin at 10:30 a.m. July 26, 1997 at the St. John Lutheran Church, Russell, with the Rev. Michael Fibranz officiating; burial in the church cemetery. Pohlman’s in charge.
