Eva Elizabeth Riffel, daughter of Fredrick and Eva (Kraft) Riffel, was born January 30, 1904, in Russia, and departed this life December 20, 1984, St. Anthony Hospital, Hays, KS at the age of 80 years, 10 months and 20 days.

In 1907, she came to America with her family and settled in Russell where she received her education and spent the remainder of her life. She was confirmed into the Lutheran faith in Russell, and was a member of St. John Lutheran Church. Never married, she was the oldest of eight children. After the death of her mother, she assumed the household duties and took care of her father, brothers and sisters.

Her brother, Alexander, made his home with her for 20 years until his death in 1982.

A devoted homemaker, sister, neighbor and friend, she will be missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by two brothers: Jacob Riffel, Russell; Emanuel Riffel, Ellinwood; sisters: Mrs. Ben (Katherine) Miller and Mrs. Walter (Amelia) Dougherty, both Russell; Mrs. Leo (Mollie) Ebel, Wamego, KS; Mrs. Lawrence (Mary) Barnes, Junction City, KS; also a number of other relatives.

A memorial has been established in her name to St. John Lutheran Church.
