RUSSELL - Bertha Wagner Stielow, 93, died Thursday, March 11, 2004, at Russell Regional Hospital. She was born Aug. 4, 1910, north of Russell to John and Eva Yerger Schneider. She grew up in the Russell area and attended Boswell Rural School. After receiving her education, she helped her family on their farm for several years. She married Emanuel Wagner at the Lutheran parsonage on Sept. 29, 1930, in Russell. He died March 19, 1967. She married John Stielow at St. John Lutheran on Sept. 7, 1974, in Russell. He died Dec. 24, 1986. She worked as a housekeeper for the Hollywood Hotel, Russell, and later cleaned homes in the Russell area for many years. She worked in the kitchen at Russell Regional Hospital for many years until retiring.
Survivors include a son, Dale E. Wagner and wife Connie, Russell; three daughters, Norma JoAnn Riedel and husband Robert, Plains, Mary L. Stielow and husband Keith, Platte City, Mo., and Barbara J. Brown and husband Dean, Russell; two stepsons, Don Stielow, North Kansas City, Mo., and Keith Stielow, Platte City; two stepdaughters, Joyce Kidder, Vancouver, Wash., and Sylvia English, Albuquerque, N.M.; a sister, Elsie Cobb, Canton; 15 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death were: parents, both husbands, three sisters, two brothers, and a grandson.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday (March 13, 2004) at St. John Lutheran Church, Russell with Rev. Henry J. Hartman officiating; burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be until 9 p.m. today at Pohlman-Heise Mortuary, Russell. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John Lutheran Church, Russell.
