George M. Borgens, 81, of Nampa, passed away on Monday, April 23, 2012 and will be laid to rest in the Terrace Lawns Memorial Gardens-Boise. A Celebration of George's life will be held at Georgia and Al Vreeland's home 7886 Ustick Rd Nampa, Idaho on Saturday May 5, 2012 from 6pm-9pm where you will be served George's prize winning salmon that he caught in Alaska.
George was born December 2, 1930 in Loveland, Colorado, to John and Mary Katherine Borgens; he was the youngest of 16 children. He attended school in Loveland and worked on the family farm.
George joined the Air Force on July 2, 1947 and served until June 29, 1950, spending most of his tour of duty in Guam. During this time, he met Carol and they were married December 31, 1949. George and Carol lived in Colorado where they worked on a large farm and they had two daughters Georgia and Lori. They moved to Idaho in 1958 and in 1961 their son Greg was born.
George was an avid fisherman and you would find him most weekends with his friends up on the river or reservoir catching loads of fish! He made several trips to Alaska which was his favorite place – as the fish were much bigger! George was a sharp shooter with the shot gun, pistol or rifle when it came to hunting for birds or big game. The family enjoyed camping trips almost every weekend during the summer. George worked in construction and the glass glazing industry and loved to make people laugh his goal was to have fun wherever he went. George was the life of the party in spite of living with a disabling stroke from 1992. He spent the last few months at the Idaho Veterans Home which we want to give a special "thanks" to all of you that cared for George. He was an attention grabber with those blue eyes of his and his sense of humor.
He is survived by his children, Georgia and Al Vreeland, Greg Borgens; grandchildren, Steven and Jocee Vreeland, Tara Vreeland, Heather and Ryan Richards and Heidi and Matt Saunders: seven great-grandchildren; and many special nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his four sisters, Helen, Mildred, Madelyn and Betty Lou.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, daughter and 11 siblings.
George, also known as "Pop", loved his family and friends and he lived his life full of adventure. He will remain in our hearts and minds forever.
The family requests that you make donations to your charity or church of your choice in lieu of sending flowers.
