Florian Francis Fischer was born in Terre Haute, Vigo County, Indiana, the son of Hannah (Bruder) Fischer and John Fischer. He had three sisters: Margaret Fischer, Nellie Fischer, and Mary (Fischer) Roth. He was working as a bartender when he married Anna (Nicolai) Kulow, a saloonkeeper's daughter and a widow with three children, 12 March 1906. In addition to his three stepchildren, Franz, Albert, and Elsa Kulow, Florian and Anna had three daughters together: Florine, Josephine, and Margaret. He later worked as a machine operator (1920) and then a gas producer (1930) at a chemical plant. Florian and Anna lived in Terre Haute until her death in 1952. He died 18 August 1954 at the Ikemire Clinic in Palestine, Crawford County, Illinois; his residence at the time was in Hutsonville, Crawford County, Illinois, at the home of his daughter Florine and her husband.

An obituary for Florian appeared in the 20 August Terre Haute Tribune; the paper mistakenly identified Florian as a woman. A requiem mass was said for him at St. Patrick's Church in Terre Haute. Florian shares the "MARGARET FISCHER 1931" Mausoleum with his mother and his sisters Margaret and Nellie, all of whom predeceased him.
