Clara Korb Zimbelmann was born at home on her parents' homestead near Naper, Nebraska, to Henry and Magdalena (Wetzler) Korb. When she was four years old, her parents and their four children established a homestead in Tripp County, South Dakota, southwest of Colome. She attended rural elementary school near their farm. Her father died following a brief illness when she was 14.

Clara was united in marriage to Henry Zimbelmann on February 17, 1927. Clara and Henry lived on a farm near Hamill, South Dakota and raised a family of seven children there. In 1958 they turned the farm over to their son and retired in Gregory, South Dakota.

Preceding Clara in death were her husband, who died three months before her, a younger brother, Henry, her parents and a great-grandson. She was survived by three sons and four daughters, 20 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, three brothers, Theodore, Gottlieb and Alfred, and two sisters, Frieda Giske and Margaret Meyer.

Funeral services were held at St. John's Lutheran Church in Gregory.
