Gottlieb Korb was born February 26, 1903 at Naper, Nebraska, the son of Henry and Magdalena (Wetzler) Korb. His parents moved their family to a homestead southwest of Colome, South Dakota in 1910. Gottlieb attended rural school in Tripp County and the German Congregational Church near Millboro, S.D.

Gottlieb was baptized and confirmed in the German Congregational Church in Fairfax where he met Frieda Walth. They were married on January 5, 1926 at the home of her mother in Fairfax. They established their home in Tripp County, S.D., 16 miles south of Winner, where they farmed for seven years.

In 1932 they moved into Colome where Gottlieb was the Water Commissioner and City Constable. During these years Gottlieb and his wife Frieda raised their family of two boys and two girls. Gottlieb and Frieda moved to Gregory in 1960 where Gottlieb was employed as Water Superintendent until his retirement. Frieda passed away in March of 1989 and Gottlieb continued to live in Gregory, spending the last years of his life at Rosebud Nursing Home where he died on March 2, 1994, just four days past his 91st birthday.

Gottlieb was a faithful and longtime member of the United Methodist Church in Colome and Gregory, and he loved to sing the old hymns. In his earlier years his hobby was working on old clocks and he also enjoyed hunting and fishing with his wife Frieda.

Funeral services for Gottlieb were held Sunday, March 6, 1994, at 2:30 p.m. at the Gregory Methodist Church in Gregory, S.D. with Pastor Alfonso Briones officiating.
Gottlieb was survived by his four children, seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; a brother, Alfred Korb, and a sister, Margaret Meyer. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Frieda; an infant son, Eugene; two brothers, and two sisters.
