Mrs. Sophia Wirtz, 82, of 1623 Court Street, Port Huron, died Saturday, January 17, 1987 in Port Huron Hospital after a brief illness. She was born March 11, 1904 and was a life-long area resident. She married John Wirtz on September 24, 1922 in Port Huron. He died March 8, 1976.
Mrs. Wirtz was a member of Our Saviour Lutheran Church.
She is survived by two sons, John W. Wirtz and James P Wirtz, and a daughter, Mrs. Dorothy P. Rapley, all of Port Huron; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Louise Anderson of Williamsburg, Virginia, and Mrs. Grant (Eleanor) Arnold of Keowee Key, South Carolina; a brother, Charles Smith of Wakefield, Virginia; and several nieces and nephews.
A third son, Walter C. Wirtz, died on January 23, 1975.
Funeral Services were held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, January 20, 1987 in Our Saviour Lutheran Church. The Reverend Frederick A Schoof, pastor, officiated. Burial was in Lakeside Cemetery, Port Huron. Pallbearers were John O. Wirtz, James P. Wirtz Jr., C Sean Wirtz, James H Rapley, Robert L. Smith and Robert J. Fritch. Honorary pallbearers were John Falk, John E. Mallorey, Frederick Falk, Grant Arnold and Henry T. Smith.
