Solomon "Sam" Schmidt, 68, Baton Rouge, died unexpectedly Sept. 23 in Manila, The Philippine Islands.
He was born May 30, 1910, in Lovell, Wyo.
Mr. Schmidt served im the Merchant Marine during World War II.
He was employed by the Lykes Steamship Co. He was a seaman in fresh and salt waters all of his life. He is survived by a son, Jerry S. Smith, Detroit; three sisters, Mrs. John (Sophia) Wirtz, Port Huron, Mrs. Kenneth (Louise) Anderson, Williamsburg, Va., and Mrs. Grant (Eleanor) Arnold, Baton Rouge; and a brother, Charles Smith, Wakefield, Va.
Private services will be Saturday in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home, Port Huron. The Rev. Frederick A. Schoof of Our Saviour Lutheran Church will officiate. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Port Huron.
Memorials may be made to Our Saviour Lutheran Church or Michigan Heart Association
