New Iberia -- Funeral services for John Burgardt Jr., 85, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 3, 2003, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church. The Rev. Charles Langlois will officiate at the funeral service. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

A native of Topeka, Kan., and a resident of Eunice, John Burgardt Jr. passed away at 9 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30, 2003, at Eunice Manor Nursing Home.

He was a former resident of New Iberia. Mr. Burgardt was retired from Ashland Chemical Company with 27 years of service. He was a member of the St. Thomas More Catholic Community in Eunice for the past 18 years and had a love of gardening and fishing.

Survivors include his wife of 26 years, Ella Lou Broussard Burgardt, of Eunice three sons, Kenneth Burgardt, of Ingram, Texas, and Daniel Burgardt and Joseph Burgardt, both of New Iberia three daughters, Mary B. Smith, of New Iberia, Kathy Story, of Lafayette, and Linda Mouton, of Scott two stepsons, Cedric Mouton, of Hidalgo, Texas, and John Clyde Mouton, of Scott one stepdaughter, Mona Siebert, of Eunice three brothers, George Burgardt, of Arvada, Colo., and Joe and Clarence Burgardt, both of Garden City, Kan. two sisters, Rosie Knoll, of Garden City, and Sister Virginia Burgardt, of Great Bend, Kan. 11 grandchildren nine step grandchildren and 10 step great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Louise Frank Burgardt his parents, John Burgardt Sr. and Barbara Kippies Burgardt one daughter, Carol Jean Burgardt three brothers, Jake, Andrew and Pete Burgardt and four sisters, Sister Katherine Burgardt, Anna Drieline, Mary Baier and Helen Urich.

The family prefers memorials to Alzheimer's Foundation, South/West Louisiana Chapter, Acadiana Branch, 128 Demanade Blvd., Building IV, Suite 109, Lafayette, LA 70503.

Pallbearers will be Kenneth, Daniel and Joseph Burgardt, John Clyde Mouton, Eddie Story and Sidney Smith.

A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today. Visitation will be observed at the funeral home from 3 p.m. until 10 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. Monday until time of the services.
