He was born Sept. 5, 1922, in Holcomb, the son of John and Barbara Kippes Burgardt.
A lifetime area resident, he married Rose Mary Brungardt at Garden City Sept. 3, 1946. She survives.
He farmed for Hollis Petz and Herb Clutter and then worked in the Archer-Daniels Midland Hay Mill at Holcomb before becoming the service station manager for the former Pete's K.T. and U-Haul Fina Station in Garden City.
He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Garden City. He also was a member of Kinghts of Columbus and John J. Haskell VFW Post #2279, both of Garden City. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran serving in the European Theater.
Other survivors include: two sons, Mike, Tacoma, Wash., and David, Garden City; four daughters, Janet Linenberger, Patricia Briggs, and Laurie Diamond, all of Garden City, and Coleen Burgardt, Logan, Utah; four brothers, John, Eunice, La., George, Arvada, Colo., Joe and Clarence, both of Garden City; three sisters, Anna Dreiling, Lamar, Colo., Rosie Knoll, Garden City, and Sister Virigina Burgardt, Great Bend; 10 grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Andrew and Jake, and three sisters, Sister Dorothy Burgardt, Mary Baier and Helen Uhrich.
Vesper services will be at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at St. Mary Catholic Church, Garden City. Funeral mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary Catholic Church with the Rev. James Baker officiating.
Friends may call until 9 tonight and from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Garden City.
