Mike Joseph Degand Sr., 82, Topeka, died Tuesday, Nov. 21, 1995 at home.
He was born March 1, 1913 at Topeka, the son of John P. and Catherine Hefner Degand.
Mr. Degand was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Legion of Mary, North Topeka Council No 2608 of the Knights of Columbus and he was a life member of the AFL-CIO Labor Union. He also a member of a Polka band for several years.
He was married to Virginia Bearde on April 23, 1938 at Topeka. She died July 17, 1975. A son, George C. Degand Sr., died Dec. 1, 1993.
Survivors include three sons, Philip P. Degand Sr., Mike J. Degand Jr. and Bert R. Degand Sr., all of Topeka; a sister, Catherine F. Navarre, Topeka; 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Mr. Degand will lie in state after 8 a.m. Friday at Parker-Price Mortuary, where a Knights of Columbus rosary will be recited at 7 p.m., followed by a Legion of Mary rosary at 7:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Midland Hospice Care Inc., 200 S.W. Frazier Circle, Topeka, 66606.
