His father passed away when he was 9 years old. He became interested in electronics. After WW II he used his scarce money to buy surplus electronic components. After High School he enlisted in the Air force and served 4 years. Most of the assignment was at an overseas Missile site. He attended college to become a teacher. His education career was short as he took a job with UNIVAC in St Paul. He wed Charlotte Funk in 1956 and was sent to California to service one of the larger computers of that time. He and Charlotte raised three children. They enjoyed camping and traveling. Later he was employed by a computer Co. and designed circuitry for Printers and other devices. He had a garden and was a home fixer. He built a model locomotive and he enjoyed outdoor cooking.
His health declined and experienced heart problems. In 2004 his wife, Charlotte, passed away.
Later had a stroke that disabled his self movement. He was well cared for by his daughters and son until his passing. Surviving family are Daughters Kathy(Dennis)Crain, Jeanne McKay and son Karl, brothers Roland and Virgil(Betty), and sisters Lorraine(Gayland)Halter and Lila. Preceding his passing was his loving wife, Charlotte, his parents Leonard and Anna, brothers Laurice and Myron(Dorothy)
