Leonard Koester, son of the late Lewis Koester and Ingrid was born August 4, 1893 in Bandon Township, near Fairfax, Minnesota. He was baptized in early infancy and at the proper time confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He remained in Bandon Township until 1917 when he went to Minot, ND to farm. In March of 1918 he was drafted and sent to Fort Dodge, Iowa and later to France. He served in the army for 15 months.
In 1919 he begin farming with his brother, Oscar. On September of 1921 he was wed to Anna Hanson, daughter of Mr and Mrs Torger Hanson of Hector , Mn. They farmed in Bandon Township till 1928 when they moved to a farm near Lake Lillian, MN.
His health begin failing in August of 1940 and was admitted to the Veterans Hospital at Fort Snelling, Mn. After one month he had a short stay at home and was later admitted to Edward J Hines hospital, at Hines, Il. In spite of the best care available he failed rapidly. His one concern was for his children at home. He passed away Thursday evening , December 19, 1940. Having reached the age of 47.
He leaves to morn: his wife, Anna, five Sons, Laurice, Myron, Roland, Virgil, Harold and two daughters, Lorraine and Lila.
Military service were held at the Norwegian Lutheran Free church near lake Lillian Monday December 23 . The American Legion, Carl O Potter Post 135 of Hector took part in the service for their departed comrade.
