A Pioneer Dies – With the passing away of Mrs. Katherine Puetz, which took place on Nov. 24th, at her home in East Brothertown another of the pioneers of that section has gone to her reward.
Katherine Puetz, nee Thillmann, was born at Newarth, Prussia, Germany, Oct. 6, 1835. In 1852 she emigrated to America and came direct to Marytown to the home of her brother who had located there some two years previously. She was married in Marytown in 1859 to Joseph Puetz and located on the farm in the town of Brothertown on which she lived until death claimed her.
She had been an invalid for a few months and death was due to apoplexy. She was a kind and loving wife and mother and a true Christian woman. Since the death of her husband some eighteen years ago she made her home with her son, Joseph.
She is survived by three sons, Peter of Lena, John of Boyd, Joseph of Brothertown, and four daughters, Mrs. J. W. Weier of Fond du Lac, Mrs. P. Meyer of Marytown, Mrs. Leo Meyers and Miss Katherine Puetz of Brothertown, all of whom were in attendance at the funeral which was held from the Catholic church at Charlesburg on Saturday last. Services were conducted by Rev. Fr. N. L. Thelen. The Ladies' Sodality of which she was a member, showed the respect and esteem in which she was held, by attending the funeral in a body.
