William Haas, Jr., 71, of 221 Walnut, died at his home April 1. Born March 14, 1908 in Doenhoff, Russia, to William and Katherine (Erbes) Haas, Sr., he came to this country when he was five years old.

The family first settled in Baltimore, Md., moved for a year to Muscatine, Iowa, then came to Windsor in 1915. Mr. Haas attended Windsor Schools. He was married to Mary Miller on Sept. 12, 1926, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Windsor.

The couple farmed north of Windsor until they retired in 1968 at which time they moved into town. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1976 at the American Legion with an honorary dance.

Mr. Haas was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church where he and his father sang in the Choir for many years. He served on the church council from 1957-1964.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Helen, who died in 1940.

Mr. Haas is survived by his wife, Mary, of Windsor; 2 sons; 3 daughters; his step-mother, Eugenia Haas of Windsor; five sisters, Mary Gettman, Katherine Miller, Elizabeth Greenwald, Ruth Schmidt and Betty Schmidt; four brothers, Henry, Phillip, Jake and Edward; 14 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
